A quick and easy fall dessert board with sliced apples, caramel sauce, and crunchy toppings. Perfect for parties and gatherings, this budget-friendly recipe comes together in 15 minutes with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought, like Mrs. Richardson’s)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
  • 1/4 cup honey (optional)
  • 1 cup pretzels (mini or sticks)
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts (salted or unsalted)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips (milk, dark, or white)
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries or raisins
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for cinnamon sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional, for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep the apples (5 minutes): Wash and dry apples. Cut into thin wedges (8-10 slices per apple). Place wedges in a bowl of cold water mixed with juice of one lemon. Soak for 2-3 minutes, then drain and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Warm the caramel sauce (1 minute): Transfer store-bought caramel sauce to a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 15-20 seconds until pourable but not hot. Stir and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Arrange the small bowls (2 minutes): Place 3-4 small ramekins or bowls on a large cutting board in a triangle formation. Fill with caramel sauce, peanut butter, and chocolate hazelnut spread. Add honey in a fourth bowl if using.
  4. Layer the apple slices (3 minutes): Arrange apple slices in concentric circles or fan patterns around the bowls, overlapping slightly. Mix green and red apples for visual contrast.
  5. Add the crunchy elements (3 minutes): Fill gaps with pretzels, nuts, and chocolate chips in small clusters. Tuck dried cranberries in small piles near edges.
  6. Garnish and serve (2 minutes): Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over apple slices. Add a pinch of flaky sea salt over caramel bowl. Tuck mint leaves around edges. Serve immediately with small plates and napkins.

Notes

Slice apples just before serving to prevent browning. Warm caramel sauce gently in 10-second bursts to avoid graininess. Use a mix of apple varieties for texture and flavor. Don’t overcrowd the board; leave negative space. Toast nuts at 350°F for 5-7 minutes for extra flavor. Store leftovers separately: apple slices in airtight container with lemon juice (keeps 1 day), pretzels and nuts at room temperature, dips refrigerated for up to a week.
