These football-shaped cheeseburger sliders are juicy, cheesy, and perfect for game day. They come together in about 30 minutes and are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 12 slider buns (soft, slightly sweet, like Hawaiian sweet rolls)
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese, cut in half
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise or sour cream (for laces)
  • Toothpicks or a small piping bag

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, beaten egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions. Shape each into an oval about ¼ inch thick, slightly longer than the slider buns. Press a small indent in the center of each patty with your thumb.
  4. Place patties on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  5. During the last 2 minutes of baking, place half a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Let it melt in the oven.
  6. While patties cook, split slider buns in half. Arrange bottom halves on a separate baking sheet, brush cut sides with melted butter, and toast in the oven for 3-4 minutes until golden.
  7. Place a cheesy patty on each toasted bottom bun. Top with the toasted bun tops.
  8. Use a toothpick to lightly score two curved lines on the top of each bun to mimic football laces. Pipe two small horizontal lines across the center using mayonnaise or sour cream in a piping bag or zip-top bag.
  9. Brush the tops of assembled sliders with remaining melted butter. Sprinkle sesame seeds if using. Bake for 3-5 minutes until buns are warm and cheese is fully melted.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t skip the indent in the patties to prevent doming. Toast buns twice to avoid sogginess. Let patties rest 2-3 minutes before assembling. Practice laces on a test bun first.
