  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup water or beef broth
  • 1 large bag (1316 ounces) restaurant-style tortilla chips
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup guacamole
  • ½ cup pickled jalapeños, drained
  • ½ cup pico de gallo or fresh salsa
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. Make the chili meat: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook 2-3 minutes until softened. Add ground beef and cook 5-6 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper; cook 1 minute.   3. Assemble the hot layer: Spoon the hot chili meat into the center well. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the meat. Optionally, broil for 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted.
  4. Add cold toppings: Place small bowls of sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo around the edges. Scatter pickled jalapeños, black olives, cilantro, and green onions over the cheese and meat. Arrange lime wedges around the board.
