This thick, creamy, almost ice-cream-like smoothie bowl is made with frozen bananas, peanut butter, and protein powder. It’s ready in 5 minutes, pantry-friendly, and a crowd-pleaser that even smoothie-haters love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large frozen bananas, peeled and sliced before freezing
  • 2 tablespoons creamy or crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 scoop vanilla or unflavored protein powder
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 4–6 ice cubes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • For the toppings (optional): granola, sliced banana or fresh fruit, extra peanut butter drizzle, chocolate chips or cacao nibs, chia seeds or hemp hearts, shredded coconut, sprinkle of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Prep the bananas: Peel two large ripe bananas, slice into 1-inch rounds, and freeze on a parchment-lined baking sheet for at least 4 hours or overnight. Transfer to a freezer-safe bag.
  2. Gather your ingredients: Measure out peanut butter, protein powder, and milk. Have ice cubes ready if using. Set out toppings in small bowls.
  3. Start blending: Add frozen banana slices, peanut butter, protein powder, and 1/4 cup milk to a high-speed blender. Start on low, then increase to high. Use a tamper or stop to scrape down sides with a spatula.
  4. Check the texture: After about 30 seconds, the mixture should be thick and creamy like soft-serve ice cream. If too thick, add another tablespoon of milk; if too thin, add a few ice cubes and blend.
  5. Taste and adjust: Add honey or maple syrup if needed for sweetness, or more peanut butter for flavor. Blend briefly.
  6. Divide and serve: Scrape the smoothie base into serving bowls. Spread it out slightly with the back of a spoon.
  7. Add toppings: Arrange toppings in clusters for texture and flavor contrast. Drizzle extra peanut butter and sprinkle sea salt.
  8. Serve immediately: Smoothie bowls are best right after blending. For a crowd, blend one batch at a time.

Notes

For hosting, prep banana slices and measure ingredients the night before. Use room-temperature milk for smoother blending. Scrape down blender sides at least twice. Chill serving bowls for 10 minutes before serving for a colder bowl. If the smoothie bowl is too thin, add a few ice cubes and blend again.
