This quick and easy Christmas Tree Cake Dip is a creamy, fluffy, and festive dessert that tastes just like the iconic holiday treat. Made with simple ingredients like cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, and angel food cake crumbs, it’s the perfect last-minute dessert for any holiday gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (7-ounce) jar marshmallow fluff
  • 1/2 cup store-bought angel food cake, crumbled into fine crumbs
  • Green gel food coloring
  • 1/4 cup holiday sprinkles
  • Pretzel sticks (for serving)
  • Graham crackers (for serving)
  • Vanilla wafers (for serving)
  • Fresh strawberries or apple slices (for serving)
  • Animal crackers (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese and butter: Take your cream cheese and butter out of the refrigerator at least 1 hour before you plan to start. They need to be at room temperature. If you’re in a hurry, you can cut them into small cubes and let them sit for 30 minutes, but don’t microwave them.
  2. Crush the angel food cake: While your dairy is softening, take your slices of angel food cake and crumble them into a small bowl. You want fine crumbs, almost like sand. Set aside about 2 tablespoons of the crumbs for garnish later.
  3. Cream the base: In your large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and butter. Beat them together on medium speed with your hand mixer for about 2 minutes, until the mixture is completely smooth, pale, and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with your spatula at least once.
  4. Add the sweetness: Add the vanilla extract, salt, and powdered sugar to the bowl. Beat on low speed at first so the sugar doesn’t fly everywhere, then increase to medium and beat for another 1-2 minutes until everything is well combined and fluffy.
  5. Fold in the fluff and cake: Add the entire jar of marshmallow fluff to the bowl. Use your spatula to gently fold it into the cream cheese mixture. Once the fluff is mostly incorporated, add the angel food cake crumbs (reserving the 2 tablespoons for garnish) and fold them in gently.
  6. Color it green: Add a small drop of green gel food coloring to the dip. Stir it in with your spatula. Add more, one tiny drop at a time, until you reach your desired shade of Christmas tree green.
  7. Chill (optional, but recommended): If you have time, cover the bowl and pop it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. This helps the dip firm up slightly and allows the flavors to meld together.
  8. Garnish and serve: Just before serving, transfer the dip to your serving bowl. Sprinkle the reserved angel food cake crumbs over the top, and then add a generous shower of holiday sprinkles.

Notes

For best results, ensure cream cheese and butter are truly at room temperature. Use gel food coloring to avoid thinning the dip. The dip can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free angel food cake or vanilla wafers.
