These easy Halloween mummy meatballs are the perfect spooky appetizer that looks impressive but comes together with almost no effort. Frozen meatballs wrapped in crescent dough, baked until golden, and dotted with mustard eyes—ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2430 frozen fully cooked meatballs (cocktail size, about 1-inch diameter)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (Pillsbury recommended; 2 cans for full batch)
  • Mustard or ketchup for eyes (yellow mustard, ketchup, sriracha, or cream cheese)
  • 12 tablespoons melted butter
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. If using a cooling rack, place it on the baking sheet.
  2. Remove frozen meatballs from freezer. Pat them dry with a paper towel to help dough stick.
  3. Open crescent roll dough carefully. Unroll onto a clean cutting board. Press perforated seams together gently to form a solid rectangle.
  4. Cut dough into thin strips about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide and 4-5 inches long using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. You’ll get about 12-15 strips per can.
  5. Wrap each meatball with a strip of dough, leaving a small gap for the eyes. Start at the top, wrap diagonally, then crisscross back. Tuck the end underneath to secure.
  6. Place wrapped meatballs on prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  7. Brush each mummy with melted butter using a pastry brush.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and puffed. Start checking at 12 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Add eyes: Using a toothpick or knife tip, dab two small dots of mustard (or ketchup, etc.) onto the exposed meatball area.

Notes

Don’t overwrap the meatballs—leave about 30-40% exposed for the mummy look. Cold dough is easier to handle. Parchment paper is essential to prevent sticking. For best results, serve warm within 15 minutes of baking. To reheat leftovers, place on a baking sheet in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes. Unbaked mummies can be frozen for up to 3 months; bake directly from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the baking time.
