These spooky popcorn hands are made with lighter white chocolate for a treat that’s fun, delicious, and not too heavy. Perfect for Halloween parties or a creative movie night snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups air-popped popcorn (about 1/3 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (for popping, if not using an air popper)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 ounces lighter white chocolate baking bars (e.g., Ghirardelli or Lindt)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil or mild vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Halloween sprinkles (orange, black, and purple mix)
  • 2 tablespoons edible glitter or sanding sugar (optional)
  • Red food coloring gel (for ‘blood’ drip effect, optional)

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn using an air popper or stovetop method. If using stovetop, heat 1 tablespoon coconut oil in a large pot over medium heat, add 3 kernels, and when they pop, add remaining kernels. Cover and shake until popping slows. Remove from heat and let sit for 30 seconds.
  2. Spread popped popcorn on a large baking sheet and remove any unpopped kernels. Let cool completely, about 5 minutes. Line another baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Break lighter white chocolate bars into small pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 tablespoons coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until completely smooth (about 2 minutes total). Alternatively, melt in a double boiler over simmering water.
  4. Pour melted white chocolate over cooled popcorn in a large mixing bowl. Gently fold and toss with a spatula until every piece is evenly coated.
  5. Put on disposable gloves. Scoop a generous handful of coated popcorn mixture into your gloved hand. Gently squeeze to compress into a hand shape, pressing lightly between each finger to form individual fingers.
  6. Carefully slide the shaped popcorn hand onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining mixture to make 6-8 hands.
  7. While white chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with Halloween sprinkles, edible glitter, or sanding sugar. For ‘blood’ drips, mix a few drops of red food coloring gel with a teaspoon of melted white chocolate and drizzle using a piping bag or zip-top bag with corner snipped off.
  8. Let hands set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, or refrigerate for 10 minutes. They should be firm but slightly pliable.
  9. Carefully lift each hand from parchment paper. If fingers break, dip broken edge in melted white chocolate and press back together.

Notes

Use lighter white chocolate baking bars, not chips, for smooth melting. Let popcorn cool completely before coating to prevent greasy texture. Don’t over-squeeze when shaping hands. Work in batches if chocolate thickens. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days; freeze for up to 1 month. Re-crisp in 300°F oven for 3-4 minutes if softened.
