These easy mummy pigs in a blanket for Halloween are a quick, festive appetizer made with crescent roll dough and mini hot dogs, wrapped to look like little mummies. Perfect for parties, they come together in about 20 minutes and are a crowd-pleaser for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 package (12 oz) mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages (e.g., Lit’l Smokies)
  • Mustard or ketchup for the eyes
  • 1 large egg (optional, for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Non-stick cooking spray or parchment paper
  • Marinara sauce (for dipping, optional)
  • Honey mustard (for dipping, optional)
  • Ranch dressing (for dipping, optional)
  • Spicy ketchup or sriracha mayo (for dipping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it on a clean cutting board. Press the perforated seams together gently to form one smooth sheet.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/4 to 1/3 inch wide. You should get around 12 to 16 strips.
  4. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a mini hot dog at a slight angle, leaving a small gap at the top for the ‘face.’ Overlap the dough slightly as you go and press the end to seal. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  5. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet about an inch apart. If using egg wash, brush each mummy lightly with the beaten egg mixture. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  7. Let the mummies cool on a cooling rack for about 5 minutes.
  8. Dip a toothpick into mustard or ketchup and dot two small eyes onto the exposed part of each hot dog.
  9. Serve warm with dipping sauces of choice.

Notes

Keep the dough cold for easier handling. Don’t wrap too tightly; leave room for the dough to expand. For a crispier texture, use an air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 6-8 minutes. Assemble up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate; add eyes just before serving. Freeze unbaked mummies for up to 1 month; bake from frozen, adding 3-5 minutes.
