Refreshing Cucumber Basil Gin Fizz - featured image

A light and lively cocktail combining fresh cucumber, aromatic basil, crisp gin, and floral elderflower tonic for a refreshing and elegant drink perfect for warm weather.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) gin (preferably London dry gin like Tanqueray)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 68 fresh basil leaves (more for stronger flavor)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice (about half a lime)
  • 1 tsp simple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 4 oz (120 ml) elderflower tonic water
  • Ice cubes
  • Cucumber ribbons or wheels (for garnish)
  • Fresh basil sprigs (for garnish)
  • Thin lime slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place cucumber slices and basil leaves in a mixing glass.
  2. Gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon for about 30 seconds to release juices and aromas without pureeing.
  3. Add 2 oz gin, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 1 tsp simple syrup or honey if using.
  4. Add a handful of ice cubes to chill the mixture.
  5. Stir gently for 15-20 seconds to combine flavors and chill the base; avoid shaking.
  6. Strain the mixture into a rocks or highball glass filled with fresh ice.
  7. Slowly pour 4 oz elderflower tonic water over the cocktail base and gently stir to combine.
  8. Garnish with cucumber ribbons or wheels, fresh basil sprigs, and a thin slice of lime if desired.
  9. Serve immediately while icy cold and fizzy.

Notes

Muddle gently to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Add tonic last and stir gently to preserve fizz. Prepare the cucumber-basil-gin base up to 24 hours ahead and add tonic and ice just before serving. Garnish fresh for best aroma and presentation.
