These spooky easy mummy hot dog bites are a quick and fun Halloween snack made with just three main ingredients. Ready in under 20 minutes, they’re perfect for parties and guaranteed to be a hit with kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14 oz) mini hot dogs or cocktail wieners (e.g., Lit’l Smokies or Hillshire Farm mini sausages)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon milk (optional, for thinning cream cheese)
  • Yellow mustard or ketchup (optional, for eyes)
  • Everything bagel seasoning or poppy seeds (optional, for topping)
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it onto a cutting board. If using perforated dough, press the seams together to seal. Cut the dough into thin strips, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. You should get about 20-24 strips from one can.
  3. Take one mini hot dog or cocktail wiener and start wrapping a strip of dough around it, leaving a small gap at the top for the eyes. Don’t wrap too tightly; overlap the strips slightly to look like bandages. Press the end of the dough gently to seal.
  4. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each one.
  5. Optional: For a golden finish, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush over the dough strips.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed up. Start checking at 8 minutes to avoid burning.
  7. Let the mummies cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before adding the eyes.
  8. While cooling, place the softened cream cheese in a small bowl. If too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon of milk to thin slightly. Use a toothpick to dab two small dots of cream cheese on each mummy’s ‘face’ area. For extra spookiness, add a tiny dot of mustard or ketchup in the center of each cream cheese eye.
  9. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Keep the dough cold for easier handling. Don’t overwrap the hot dogs—2-3 strips per mummy is plenty. Always add cream cheese eyes after baking to prevent melting. For make-ahead, wrap mummies up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate; bake just before serving. To freeze, freeze unbaked wrapped mummies on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag; bake from frozen, adding 3-4 minutes to bake time.
