A creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip topped with a sour cream spiderweb design, perfect for Halloween parties. Quick to make with simple ingredients, it’s a crowd-pleaser that looks impressive.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded (rotisserie chicken works perfectly)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (Frank’s RedHot recommended)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 black olive, sliced (optional, for spider decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Shred the cooked chicken using two forks; you should have about 2 cups.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo hot sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until smooth.
  4. Fold in shredded chicken, 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, and chopped green onions. Mix until evenly distributed.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9-inch pie dish or small baking dish. Spread evenly and smooth the top.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar and 1/2 cup mozzarella evenly over the top.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until hot and bubbly, and the cheese is melted and golden around the edges.
  8. While the dip bakes, spoon sour cream into a piping bag or zip-top bag. If using a zip-top bag, snip off a tiny corner.
  9. Once the dip is out of the oven, let it cool for 2 minutes. Pipe concentric circles of sour cream starting from the center outward (4-5 circles).
  10. Using a toothpick or knife, drag lines from the center outward through all circles to create spokes, then drag lines from the outside inward between spokes to form a spiderweb pattern.
  11. Place a sliced black olive in the center for the spider body, with small slivers for legs.
  12. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, or crusty bread.

Notes

For best texture, use full-fat cream cheese and shred cheese from blocks. The dip can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated; add 5 minutes to baking time if starting cold. Do not freeze.
